This is not a Sonnet

This is a poem Amanda and I wrote about how to describe a poem. We used student examples to base our structure on. We also used the terms we learned about poetry to help describe a poem and also used those terms in the poem.

A poem is...
Made up of words
Which then is turned into lines
That eventually morphs into stanzas
And the stanzas then creates a poem
A poem is...
Like a murky lake
In which you can not see the bottom
because it is so deep.
A poem is...
Comprised of Alliteration, Allusions, and Apostrophe
It can be an Ode or Elegy to someone you love
It may have meter or rhyme to set the mood
It might have a metaphor or simile to set the tone
It could give personification to a tree or a chair
A poem is..
A snappy Hiaku
A long Neruda
An instructional How-to
Or a standard sonnet
